ICU BABY Program
ICU Baby is a program designed to assist parents/primary care givers with transportation assistance to facilitate visits while their infant remains in the NICU. At a trying time for participating families, the program aims to remove a simple burden and allow families to focus on visits, bonding, and promotion of breast feeding.
Who is eligible
Parents/primary care givers with a baby in a participating NICU in need of transportation assistance.
How to enroll
A hospital social worker at a participating location must refer a baby’s family to Travelers Aid using a provided referral form. Anticipated visitation schedule must be designated and the referral must be signed and authorized by hospital staff. A phone intake appointment must be made with he Travelers Aid main office (412)281-5474. Subsequent weeks involve completion and presentation of a stamped Trip Log to verify attendance.
Duration and type of assistance offered
Transportation can be issued for a maximum of 6 weeks for parents/primary care givers. Assistance is provided in the form of bus tickets and gasoline debit cards. Gasoline cards are limited to one per family and are capped at a maximum rate. Bus tickets can be arranged for up to two parents/care givers per family.
