The traditional service of the agency. Travelers Aid will consider assistance for stranded travelers in crisis to return home or to a place of safety.
Who is eligible
Assistance varies. Travelers Aid will consider assistance for participants stranded in Allegheny County if verification of stranded status can be determined and proof of return to a stable situation can be solidified. Potential assistance situations include but are not limited to: runaways, stranded elderly, victimized women and children, medical situations, individuals who are mentally disoriented or situations of verified hardship. Assistance is not guaranteed and all details must be verified.
Domestic Violence Situational Assistance:
When working with victims of Domestic Violence, Travelers Aid requires the following in order to consider assistance with Greyhound services to reach a place of safety:
* Referral from a Domestic Violence Shelter or current police report
* Verification of acceptance at the destination (family, friend or shelter holding a bed)

Duration and type of assistance offered
Assistance is provided in the form of bus tickets or the most cost-effective means to allow transit to the client's home or stable environment. Assistance is usually limited to one incident only (with exceptions depending upon the situation). Travelers Aid cannot provide assistance for clients to return to Allegheny County from another state or location.
