Grant Announcement
Travelers Aid has secured funding from the Henry L. Hillman Foundation to offer the Senior Transportation Assistance Program for medical and grocery trips for Medicaid recipients.
Who is eligible
Individual Seniors who are 65 years of age or older that receive Medicaid. Ride-hailing options are limited to areas that can be reliably serviced by Lyft and UBER.

Clients can enroll by contacting the Department of Human Services Area Agency on Aging Senior Line (412) 350-5460 or 800-344-4319 or by calling (412)281-5474 for more information.
Duration and type of assistance offered
Duration of assistance is ongoing as funding lasts. Clientele in need of aid with transportation to get to medical appointments, public assistance services, or grocery trips can inquire.
Eligible clients may receive up to a weekly medical trip and grocery or social service trips every other week.

- GetGo Gasoline Cards
- Lyft, UBER Ride-Hailing – this is a concierge service; participants will call Travelers Aid and do not have to utilize applications on their personal cell phone
- This program is a “curb to curb” service. Travelers Aid cannot guarantee driver assistance with this program. The initiative is designed for ambulatory clients that do not require help in and out of the vehicle or with bags. This program is not a paratransit service. Seniors that require “door to door” services are encouraged to enroll in paratransit options.

Job description:
Travelers Aid of Pittsburgh has an immediate position opening in the role of Transportation Specialist.
Travelers Aid is a non-profit 501(c)3 agency that assists individuals with public transportation to attend a variety of services and programs.
Full Time Position – this is an in-office position (remote opportunities are not available)
Daylight Schedule
Salary & Benefit Package – starting at $40,000 – health coverage covered 100% at no cost to the employee
Paid Time Off – 15 PTO days to start

This is an in-office position working out of the Travelers Aid main office in Downtown Pittsburgh. This position also involves covering for vacationing Travelers Aid employees at each regional office of Children, Youth and Families (CYF). CYF offices are located around Allegheny County and coverage will be approximately 8 weeks per year.
The position will also involve issuing transportation instruments to participants, tracking eligibility and inventory, entering data into software systems, working directly with consumers to facilitate transportation needs, among other duties. Major requirements of this position include: excellent customer service and computer skills, basic math skills, basic knowledge of the Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus system in Allegheny County, PA, and organization and attention to detail. Experience in working with social services is a plus. The candidate should have familiarity with Microsoft Office software and have the ability to learn new software systems. Travelers Aid is a growing Pittsburgh agency and has developed partnerships with the Department of Human Services in Allegheny County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Medical Assistance Transportation, the Office of Children, Youth and Families, the Office of Behavioral Health, Labor and Industry, the Department of Corrections, as well as a plethora of foundations, human service and medical providers.
The position is also contingent upon the review of a criminal background check and FBI fingerprinting, drug screening and acquisition of Pennsylvania ACT 33/34 Clearances (child clearances).
